Mobility is the key to this fishery as the mother-ship keeps you within in easy striking distance of fresh-fisheries; happy, willing and aggressive fish.

Dorado are among the finest game fish on the planet – their striking beauty mixed with their beast-mode aggressive and acrobatic behavior make Dorado one of the finest freshwater species to pursue with a fly rod.

Combine a top game fish that with world class lodging provided by a full-service Mother Ship, with guaranteed mobility to some of the hottest and most remote fishing spots in the Parana River and delta system, gourmet meals served with some of the finest wines of Argentina, top notch hardcore guides, and first-class fishing skiffs and you have yourself a solid fishing program.

This unique river system has a very large and complex system of marshlands, lagoons, tributaries, creeks, and islands, which acts as a huge water filter making its waters much clearer than the waters of the main Paraná and Uruguay rivers.

The Delta is the meeting of the waters, where the Paraná and Uruguay Rivers join and fabulously rich ecosystem and supports the largest migrations of baitfish – sábalo, pejerrey and sardines all of which are the main food source of dorado, as well as other predatory fish, such as the Chafalote (Paraná river Payara fish), Palometa, Surubi (big catfish), Pira Pitá, Wolf Fish, and Pacu.

Getting to the Golden Dorado Cruiser

The programs normally run Saturday to Saturday, but it is possible to adjust in/out days to other days of the week as well as to do shorter stays due to its proximity to Buenos Aires and rather easy travel logistics.

DAY 1:
To get to the Golden Dorado River Cruiser, a ground transfer and boat transfer is necessary and included in the package. Normally it will take approximately 3 hours by private auto transfer from a Buenos Aires hotel or international or domestic airports to a marina. From the marina you will load your gear in a skiff and run about 1 hour to the exact location of the Mother Ship, depending on its location, they are constantly on the move...

Arrive Parana Gipsy with reception from the Captain and staff, followed by an introduction to Golden Dorado fishing and preparation of all fishing tackle. This is the time to get your gear ready, relax and prepare for a week of fishing. Fishing in the afternoon is possible, always depending on time of arrival at the mother ship.

Dinner is served around 9:00 pm and appetizers and cocktails are available before lunch and dinner.

Fishing Day: The fishing day is usually split into two sessions, morning and evening, with lunch at the mothership at 1:00 pm usually followed by a siesta. This maximizes the most productive bite time, while also avoiding the hottest part of the day. Dinner is served with a nice wine around 9:00 pm after a shower and short period to gather for drinks on the deck or in the salon.

DAYS 2 to 7:
Breakfast usually starts at 8:00 am.

(Morning Fishing Session): After breakfast at 8.30am you will meet your guide with your fishing partner, and load up in your fishing skiff and head out to your fishing area. Waters and drinks will be packed in your cooler.

Lunch: Depending on location of the Mother Ship and preference of anglers, lunch can be arranged at the Cruiser or on the fly with your guide at the most convenient location while fishing. Normally lunch is planned for 1:00 pm.

(Afternoon Fishing Session): Depending on the time of the year and your preference, fishing in the afternoon starts at around 3:00 pm and finishes at dusk.

Expect long fishing days, in excess of 8 hours. The fishing programs can be customized to guests’ preferences and arranged daily with your guide and manager.

Dinner is served around 9 PM. Appetizers and cocktails are available before lunch and dinner.

DAY 8:
This is your departure day and guests usually leave after breakfast between 8:00 – 9:00 am with a one hour boat ride back to the Marina, and 3 hour auto transfer back to Buenos Aires or domestic or international airport.

Fishing at Golden Dorado Cruiser

The majority of the fishing is carried out from 17 foot Carolina Skiffs powered by 90 hp Yamaha 4-stoke outboards and move at a max speed of just over 30 mph. Each skiff has a Minn Kota remote control electric motor that the guide uses to keep the boat within casting distance of the shore line and structure. These boats are spacious enough for two anglers to cast forward and aft, and the skiffs are in tip-top condition and excellent crafts to fly fish from.

Your guide will keep you in position with an electric trolling motor while you drift downstream parallel to the bank, trying to hit the most productive looking lies and ambush spots along the way. Golden Dorado are extremely aggressive feeders and will hold on ambush points, usually close to moving water, to dart and attack unsuspecting baitfish. The attack on your fly is lighting fast, often just a streak of gold in the water and once you feel the fish hit your fly, you must strip-set aggressively in order to drive the hook into their boney mouth. A trout set (lifting the rod tip) does not work on these fish, only a strip set will get the hook driven home. Dorado fishing is fly casting intensive; you are literally casting all the time the skiff is positioned within casting distance of structure, pace yourself...

The nature of the river and its fish rewards competent casters, so it is advisable that you practice your accuracy with big, wind resistant flies. To be successful you must cover a lot of water and keep your fly in the water as much possible while at the same time, eliminating as many false casts as you can. The reason; much of the fishing is centered on trying to hit specific targets near tree stumps, behind rocks, under overhangs and along cut banks. Accurate casts are paramount to success and being a double haul and generate line speed will assure you can cast your fly (BIG streamers) accurately and with the least amount of casting.

At the same time you are pounding the bank with flies, you will be taking in the verdant ecosystem of the Parana Delta. There are over 1,000 different species of birds that call this natural marshland home – always something to observe while fishing.
