Fishin’ Buddies For Veterans is based on the idea that fishing is a healthy and therapeutic way for our active military, veterans, and first responders (police, fire, and EMS) to relieve the cumulative stress that comes from public service. We also know that tight knit communities also provide a major protective factor against first responder and military suicide. Where most fishing organizations are events-based, we’re primarily relationship-based. We take fellow veterans fishing, typically one-on-one, using our own equipment, knowledge and experience. Many of us are military and first responder veterans, but we also have a large contingent of civilians that share a passion for fishing and taking care of our military and first responders. Our goal is to introduce them to fishing if they’ve never been fishing, to grow in fellowship through all kinds of fishing activities, to be a “battle buddy” through the friendships and social media presence, and finally, to connect them with other fishermen (and women), fishing professionals, and industry leaders, and develop long-term relationships.

Resources & Apps for Fish Identification – Every day people go out in boats for a day of diving, swimming, snorkeling, and fishing. No matter what recreational activity someone undertakes on the water at some point the creatures that live in the water are going to make an appearance. Different species of fish live in different types of climates and different types of water. The fish that swim in the cold waters of the Northern Atlantic aren’t the same species of fish that call the Gulf of Mexico home. Being able to identify fish is important for many reasons. Anglers don’t want to accidentally catch and harvest protected species of fish. Snorkelers and divers need to know what fish pose a danger to them. Luckily, it’s easier than ever to identify any fish that swims by!
