The Fly Shop’s Trout Fly Fishing Clinics

The Fly Shop® has several clinics for those who are interested in improving their skills and knowledge to tackle fly fishing for trout in a variety of situations.  These one day clinics offer expert instruction that will build upon basic skills in the Freestone Trout Clinic, to more specialized techniques presented in the European Nymphing and Trout Spey Clinics.  These day long clinics are designed to take novice fly fishers to the next level and improve their knowledge base in each discipline. The clinics also provide ample time to pick the brains of our expert staff.  For those who are looking for basic fly fishing instruction, our 3 Day Fly Fishing Schools or 2 Day Fly Fishing Clinics are a great choice.

Our expert instructor staff will guide students through each clinic and our low student-teacher ratio ensures a comfortable and personal atmosphere with plenty of individual time and attention. An abundance of material is presented during the clinic and practice sessions are presented in a fun and relaxed fashion.   Our certified instructor staff will present the skills necessary for the successful freestone trout fly fisher and will provide students on-point feedback during the practice sessions on the Upper Sacramento River.

Trout Spey Clinic

Swinging flies using a Spey or two handed rod is becoming more and more popular each season. The majority of fly fishers use two-handers to chase steelhead or salmon and extend their season chasing trout. Trout Spey is a great way to keep your skills up to snuff with the two handed rod when you can’t fish for their big brothers. These lighter rods are perfect for smaller rivers and creeks to target trout in a variety of situations similar to what you would encounter on a steelhead stream. The Trout Spey Clinic will get you up to speed to swing flies for trout using 3-5 weight two handed rods.

Trout Spey Topics Include:
• Trout Spey equipment and rigging

• Useful Fishing Casts
• Balancing technique to your rod
