Our popular three-day schools emphasize fly casting fundamentals and will introduce students to the basics of fly fishing.

Each instruction packed lesson builds on the previous session, preparing both beginning and intermediate anglers for just about any fly fishing situation, from Alaska to Argentina and everything in between.

Expert instructors are on hand to guide students through the course, and our low teacher-student ratio ensures a comfortable and personal atmosphere, with plenty of individual time and attention. An abundance of material is presented during the school and the practice sessions and lessons are presented in a fun and relaxed fashion.

School Topics Include:
•  Casting fundamentals, from the roll cast to the double haul
•  Tackle Basics (selecting the right gear for each individual)
•  Practical fly fishing knots
•  Elementary and practical fly fishing entomology
•  Fly fishing strategies and tactics: Dry Fly, Nymphs, & Streamers
•  Reading the Water
•  Hooking, Landing, and Releasing fish

The schools are held at The Fly Shop’s Antelope Creek Ranch or Oasis Springs Lodge. These beautiful properties are managed to provide the fish and fauna with the habitat required to help them flourish.

Getting to 3-Day Schools

Antelope Creek Ranch is located on the northeast side of majestic Mt. Shasta.

The nearest gas and services to Antelope Creek Ranch are at the town of Weed. If you are running low on gas, please be sure to refill in Weed before continuing on Highway 97 towards the ranch.
From Redding:
Travel north on I-5 approximately 70 miles to the community of Weed. Take the Central Weed Blvd/ Highway 97 off ramp (towards Klamath Falls). As you come off of I-5 you will turn right on S. Weed Blvd and go 3/4 mile to the Hwy 97 turn-off for Klamath Falls. Turn right on Hwy 97 and travel north and east 28 miles to the Tennant/Bray Road turn-off.

Turn right and proceed 12 miles to the ranch entrance, located just after you cross over Antelope Creek and before you reach the town of Tennant. There is a stone entranceway with a sign that reads, "Antelope Creek Ranch".

Turn right in to the ranch (Please close the gate behind you) and drive ¾ mile on a gravel road to the lodge. Please drive slowly to minimize dust! The lodge is the beautiful country home with the green roof located on the right side of the road, just after the wildlife ponds and down a small hill. Travel time is usually an hour and 40 minutes from Redding.

From Reno:
Take Hwy 395 to Susanville. From Susanville take Hwy 44 to its junction with Hwy 89. Turn right or north on Hwy 89 and travel to Mt Shasta and I-5. This will take approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. Take the Bray/Tennant road and proceed some 12 miles to the ranch entrance.

The street address for GPS coordinates is 12516 Tennant Road, Macdoel, Ca., 96058 though the ranch is nowhere near MacDoel and only about a mile from the community of Tennant). Please do not rely solely on GPS devices to get to the ranch, as they do not always provide the most direct routes in rural areas such as Siskiyou County.

The lodge phone is 530-398-4755, and cell phone coverage is very spotty near the ranch; cell phones don't get coverage at Antelope Creek Ranch.
