Patrick Pendergast - Director of Travel Department
If there were a qualifications list for the job as director of The Fly Shop Travel Department, the resume for that position would read like Pat Pendergast’s biography. He came to The Fly Shop a little more than a dozen years ago in 1996. He first met Mike Michalak, the owner of The Fly Shop, while guiding in Alaska, in 1986.

Our popular three-day schools emphasize fly casting fundamentals and will introduce students to the basics of fly fishing.
Each instruction packed lesson builds on the previous session, preparing both beginning and intermediate anglers for just about any fly fishing situation, from Alaska to Argentina and everything in between.
Expert instructors are on hand to guide students through the course, and our low teacher-student ratio ensures a comfortable and personal atmosphere, with plenty of individual time and attention. An abundance of material is presented during the school and the practice sessions and lessons are presented in a fun and relaxed fashion.
School Topics Include:
• Casting fundamentals, from the roll cast to the double haul
• Tackle Basics (selecting the right gear for each individual)
• Practical fly fishing knots
• Elementary and practical fly fishing entomology
• Fly fishing strategies and tactics: Dry Fly, Nymphs, & Streamers
• Reading the Water
• Hooking, Landing, and Releasing fish
The school is held at The Fly Shop's® Antelope Creek Ranch. This beautiful property is managed to provide the fish and fauna with the habitat required to help them flourish. It is a rare day that goes by when deer are not spotted grazing in the meadow that adjoins the lodge, and rising fish are a frequent distraction on the stream and both trophy trout lakes.
Guests are accommodated on a double occupancy basis in well-appointed rooms with full baths. All meals are provided beginning Thursday evening when instructors and students get to know each other and continue through lunch on Sunday as the guests prepare to depart.
All equipment required for classes will be provided. You will also receive a comprehensive notebook that will be a permanent record of all the subjects that were covered in the classes and a handy reference for future use.
After completion of one of The Fly Shop's® 3 Day Fly Fishing Schools, students will walk away with an understanding of the basics of casting and with enough knowledge to feel compentent on the water. What's more, students will have a good foundation to continue their study and growth in the sport of fly fishing and fly casting.
The Fly Shop's® 3-Day Fly Fishing Schools include three days of instruction, three nights accommodations, and all meals and equipment.
