We just finished our 2022 catalog, and in it you’ll find exciting new products, some of which we want to share with you in more detail here. This list is put together by people who have fished and used the equipment – hard core fly fishers and guides who use this stuff daily. Before we recommend an item, the first question we ask ourselves is, “would I pay full retail price for it?” If we can say “yes,” and would actually use it, then we share it with our customers and friends. So, what you see on this list are things that our own staff would buy for themselves.

Abel Rove Series Fly Reels

This isn’t just a simple remake of the old Super Series. Although it does have a lot of similarities, Abel made this one with the consumer in mind. Created to give anglers the ultimate peace of mind on the water, regardless of conditions or locations. The field-serviceable, proven Abel cork drag system, along with the simplified design approach from their engineering team, make this the reel that even guides in the Seychelles will trust in their arsenal. This is not your delicate, ultralight, classically elegant reel for alpine meadow fishing. Abel already has that model in their lineup. This is your ultra-tough, ultra-reliable, high-capacity, beat-me-up adventure reel that will go where you want to go without feeling a need to have a backup reel in your limited carry on space. Get out and rove the world with it!

Seaguar Gold Label

Seaguar is back in the fly fishing world, and they did it with a bang! Seaguar's thinnest material for stealthier presentations. Not only are thinner leaders even less visible underwater, but you also get the advantage of more natural presentations and better catch rates on finicky fish. Made with an exclusive double-structure process, they combine two custom Seaguar fluorocarbon resins to create a leader smaller in diameter yet with exceptional knot and tensile strength. It's softer too and cinches easily for fail-safe knots.

Astral Water Shoes

This year we’ve added what we believe to be the best water shoes in the world. Some may wonder, "why on earth do I need a water shoe?" In our area of Northern California we do a lot of wet wading during the spring and summer months. Many manufacturers in fly fishing have made "wet wading" shoes/boots, but with little success. Astral Water Shoes offer a super-sticky G® Rubber outsole that makes walking on rocks much easier. Both the Loyak and Brewer 2.0 come equipped with cleverly designed drain holes to easily remove excess water. If you are looking for all-day comfort when hiking, fishing, kayaking, wading, and daily use, then these are an excellent choice.

TroutHunter Tippet, Leaders & Tippet Post

None of these items are new to the fly fishing market, but they are new to us. We’ve had our eye on TroutHunter since it was originally released, but we were leery of another tippet/leader manufacturer when there was already great stuff in the marketplace. However, we couldn’t deny the fact that this stuff is the only thing that competes with Seaguar. We secured samples this last year and handed them out to the staff. They were hooked! Mike Mercer, who is very particular about his tippet, is now only fishing TroutHunter. We also offer their Evo in both tippet spools and pre-made leaders. Due to the tippet spool hole size, there isn’t another product that is great for holding your spools together in one place. Add a Tippet Post to make storing your TroutHunter tippet handy.

Tornado Anchors

A lot has changed in the anchor world with the release of Tornado Anchors. No longer are we repeatedly throwing a lead anchor into our water systems. This new anchor series is 100% lead free! The twisting plates on these two models were engineered to contour to the river bottom and stop your boat faster. The revolutionary design of Tornado Anchors allows more surface-edge contact. Not to mention that it disturbs less of the riverbed while in use. A large group of our guides have already switched from the old Pyramid Anchors to these new lead-free anchors, and they love them.

Patagonia’s Guidewater Series

Patagonia has replaced their old waterproof bag and pack series with their new version, the Guidewater Series. These new, fully submersible bags are designed to be lightweight, quiet, and mold to the body. Each bag has integrated gear tabs on the front to hold hemostats or other accessories. They also include a removable interior pouch (tippet & leaders) that can be attached to the outside of the bag for easy access. The pigeon blue color is a great touch to any angler's wardrobe. This series of packs and bags only get the Guidewater designation if they can be fully submerged without leaking. We personally tested them, and they work!

Patagonia Travel Rod Roll

This is one of those products you would look at and think, "why on earth would I ever need this?" Do you travel with several rods? Do you carry multiple rods in your vehicle? In our opinion, this new product from Patagonia is an innovative way to transport several rods at once. The weight is minimal, and the design is simple; it’s exactly what one would expect from Patagonia. You can use it as a carry-on piece or shove it in your duffel bag. Once you reach your end destination, you can unroll it and clip the straps together and hang it from a hook. All of your rods will be safe, out of the way, and well organized. Worried your rods will break? Don’t be, we field tested these by taking them to Tanzania for tigerfish last fall. We packed them in our large duffels, and they went in our checked luggage and not a single rod was damaged or broken. This new rod roll rocks!
