Wading the saltwater flats in the “Land Down Under”
The East Coast Angling team has been exploring the northern stretch of the 1,429 mile Great Barrier Reef for years and have discovered the best wadable flats on earth for tailing indo pacific permit and blue bastards. Here, on the east coast of the Cape York Peninsula, you will find the most remote stretches of coastline along the entire reef, with almost zero coastal inhabitants north of Cooktown all the way to the tip of Australia. There is just no one there, and the fish act like it.
East Coast Anglers expeditions host small groups of just six anglers a week to wade these untouched flats in search of tailers. The permit and blue bastards are the main event, but you will find more than just them feeding on these hard shallow sand and coral ruble flats, such as chinaman, GT’s, queenfish, golden trevally and others. These trips are a wading paradise, there will be no fishing from a skiff. The mothership can change position with different anchorages as necessary so that you have the opportunity to fish multiple flats and stay on fresh, new, unpressured fish throughout the trip. Two 23 foot centre console tenders will transport you from the ship to the flats each day.
At the end of each day you will return to the luxurious mothership, the “Savannah”, an 80 foot luxury expedition vessel with three very comfortable staterooms. The views in the afternoon from the sundeck are priceless after a day’s fishing with a cold beverage and a great social lounge in the main salon. You will be greeted with canapés on return from your days fishing followed by a sit down two course meal to end the day.
