Canarreos, Cuba is a multi-species saltwater fishery in a protected marine reserve.

This live-aboard boat-based trip gives saltwater fly anglers access to the Canarreos Archipelago, located roughly thirty miles off the south west coast of Cuba. You can expect to encounter permit, bonefish, tarpon, jack crevalle, barracuda, mutton snapper, and snook, all within a completely protected marine sanctuary. The itinerary includes two diverse fisheries, Isla de Juventud and Cayo Largo, utilizing a one-hundred-and-ten-foot live-aboard yacht as a mobile base.

The bounty of nature found at Canarreos is a well-kept secret. The archipelago comprises more than three hundred islets including a pristine coral reef flanked by mangrove cays and islands. It boasts unparalleled habitat hosting a multitude of flora and fauna species. Among them are iguanas, more than one hundred and seventy-five bird species, green, loggerhead and hawksbill turtles.

In the Cayo Largo area, anglers can target abundant bonefish and permit on expansive white sand and turtle grass flats. To the west, among the mangrove cays of Isla de Juventud, you’ll find a vast mangrove and reef system teeming with tarpon and snook. The ability to move seamlessly between these areas on the live-aboard yacht makes for a very special and unique experience.

The fishing area is part of the Blue Sanctuary, a progressive conservation program initiated by the Cuban government, with a thirty-year history of protecting their marine parks. Commercial fishing within this designated area is strictly forbidden and rigorously enforced.
