Highlights of the Week
Howard’s Redemption Story:
Howard’s journey with the Rio Marié has been marked by persistence and passion. His first visit in 2021 was cut short by heavy rains, and in 2022, a positive COVID test at the airport halted his return. This week, however, Howard finally fulfilled his dream of landing a giant peacock bass. On his second day, under the guidance of his local expert, he made a flawless cast to a nest and hooked a massive 20lb fish. The battle was fierce, with the peacock bass putting Howard’s skill and patience to the test. But Howard remained calm, guiding the trophy into the net—a triumphant moment, four years in the making.
Katka Švagrová’s Unmatched Success:
Returning to Rio Marié in 2024, Katka came prepared for a challenge with the largest peacock bass in the Amazon. On a promising afternoon, she spotted a significant fish movement in the shallows. Her expertly timed cast triggered an aggressive strike—a 22lb giant on the line. With precision, she brought it to the net, securing her place in Rio Marié’s 20lb club. But her success didn’t end there. Katka managed to land two more 20lb peacock bass, making her tally for the week three remarkable catches—an extraordinary feat on the Marié.
Looking Ahead:
As we move into the next weeks of the season, the anticipation only grows. With water levels steady and the weather holding strong, the potential for more epic catches remains high. Anglers are eagerly preparing for their chance to face the untamed power of the world’s largest peacock bass, making each upcoming week another chapter in the legendary story of the Rio Marié.
The Rio Marié awaits those who seek to push the limits of fly fishing and claim their own place among its waters’ giants.
