Advanced FishCamp™ is ideal for those campers who have previously attended FishCamp™ and wish to expand their knowledge and passion for the sport of fly fishing, or for older kids who may be new to FishCamp™ but who have a fair amount of previous experience with fly fishing, fly casting, and fly tying.

In Advanced FishCamp™, we review the basics learned in FishCamp™, then add new concepts, including more work with advanced casting techniques such as the double haul and adding distance to the cast, accuracy and presentation casts, more knots such as the blood knot and nail knot, and advanced fly tying techniques, including spinning deer hair and imitating real insects.

We spend even more time focusing on fishing at Advanced Camp, learning more advanced fly fishing skills, and improving upon fly tying techniques. Since most of our Advanced FishCampers are a little older and more experienced with fly fishing already, we’re really able to cater each camper’s individual experience to their personal skill level, teaching new concepts and skills as needed in real-time fishing applications.

The highlight of Advanced FishCamp™ is the last day of camp, on Friday, when all of the campers join up with some of The Fly Shop’s top guides to do a full day drift boat trip on the Lower Sacramento River. The Lower Sacramento River is one of the nation’s premier tailwater rainbow trout fisheries, and our Advanced FishCamper’s enjoy a great last day of fishing on the river before meeting their parents for a picnic in the park at Anderson River Park.

Reservations and Rates

The cost of the weekly rate for the Advanced FishCamp™ package is:
• $1,595 per camper (limited to 16 campers)

* Advanced FishCamp fills quickly each year, so we recommend booking your child as early as possible.
Included in your camper’s stay are all accommodations and meals, as well as the use of the finest fishing tools available (from Rio, Scientific Anglers, Sage, Simms, Galvan, Ross Reels, Scott, Echo, Loon Outdoors, Solitude, Montana Fly Company, Umpqua Feather Merchants, FishPond, Angler’s Book Supply, Sierra Stream and Mountain, and The Fly Shop®). Every fly, leader, tippet, rod, reel and drop of fly floatant is included in the package, as well as The Fly Shop's FishCamp™ Notebook, souvenir cap and T-Shirt. On the last day of camp your camper will also join up with some of The Fly Shop's top guides to do a full day drift boat trip on the Lower Sacramento River.
Items needed for your campers stay are 2 pairs of sunglasses (polarized is best), sleeping bag, pillow, twin fitted sheet for bed, towel and washcloth, bath robe (optional), bag for dirty clothes, rainjacket/windbreaker (brief summer storms are possible), sweatshirt (it is cool in the mornings and evenings), clothes (Plenty of shorts, jeans, T-shirts, socks, underwear, sweatshirt, sweat pants, and PJs), Teva or any kind of sandal or shoe/wading boot that can get wet (no flip-flops for fishing), old pair of shoes or hiking boots, flashlight with extra batteries, sunscreen, bug repellent, toiletry items, camera (the waterproof disposables work great), fishing vest (optional – a fanny pack will be supplied).

Lodging at Advanced FishCamp™<

FishCamp™, a destination: FishCamp™ is located in the shadows of Mount Shasta near the town of Weed, California.

Campers stay in our state-of-the-art walled tents on comfortable bunks, with the whispers of the wind amidst the pines lulling them to sleep at night. Healthy, well-rounded meals will be prepared and served in our outdoor kitchen by our professional camp cooks. We also have a great bathhouse, composed of two separate bathrooms complete with flush toilets and plenty of hot water for showers.

We ask that FishCampers arrive at Antelope Creek Ranch at 11:30 am on the day of arrival. This gives everyone an opportunity to check into their tents, meet their counselors and fellow campers, then enjoy a tasty lunch with their families.

Please do not bring radios, CD players, tape recorders, or cell phones (no signal on the ranch). Please do not bring candy or sodas to camp. Any contraband items such as tobacco, alcohol, illegal drugs, or weapons will be confiscated and are subject for dismissal from camp. The Fly Shop® cannot be responsible for any items brought by your child. Parents please do not buy new clothes. Old clothes are better; children can play and do activities in them without worry.
