Every day of the year there’s a spot within minutes
of The Fly Shop® ROCK CREEK LAKE is less
than an hour east of Redding, where the California Valley Oak meets the native Ponderosa pine. The 9-acre lake is filled by a cold, spring-fed stream. The sense of iso- lation is a refreshing change from other, often-crowded public still- waters. Rock Creek Lake is filled with trophy rainbows and a vestige population of wild brown trout. Ac- tion can be non-stop from the spring (March) opener until the first snow falls in November. Rain- bows & browns of 30˝ have been hooked and released.
Until recently Rock Creek was surrounded by a dense forest. A fire in the summer of 2012 reduced much of the nearby timber, but left a perimeter of woodland and lush riparian habitat. Almost six years later winter rains and aggressive aboriculture are quickly re-estab- lishing the character of the fishery. For whatever reason, the angling is now better than ever.
Over the past year a lovely, fully furnished two-bedroom lakeside cabin, limited to 6 guests, was completed at Rock Creek Lake, brand new and a vast improvement over the previous dwelling.

LUK LAKE is an hour south of Redding, just off Interstate 5, and it’s the most accessible of all our Pri- vate Water destinations for anglers driving up from Sacramento or the Bay Area. The 65 acre lake is great for float tubers, pontoon-boat an- glers, or those with smaller row- boats, drift boats, or even small prams with electric motors.
Luk is a very convenient mid-win- ter stillwater trout fishery, bathed in temperate, predictable, Central Valley winter weather that creates great conditions from November through May for targeting numerous trophy rainbow trout.
Too, it’s a solid bass fishery during the warmer summer months, and for much of the springtime both trout and bass are routinely caught, often using the same topwater and subsurface patterns!
There’s a cabin rental option on the ranch for larger groups and fishing clubs, and fine lodging, meals, and a spectacular John Daly Signa- ture Links at Rolling Hills golf course are available at nearby Rolling Hills Casino.
