Eric has traveled the globe guiding and managing several lodges in the world of fly fishing. We are excited to have Eric on The Fly Shop’s travel team.

Eric Ersch - Colombia Peacock BassMy relationship with The Fly Shop® began in the mid-80’s when it’s owner, Mike Michalak, brought a group of friends to our Alaska River Safaris camp on the Goodnews River. The connection continued to grow, as I managed several of their exclusive destinations (Paradise Lodge in the Yucatan, and Big Ku Lodge in Alaska) as well as spending time on the Ponoi River on the Kola Peninsula of Russia, in the Bahamas, and just living the dream. Becoming part their travel team is a perfect fit and a logical next step. I’m proud to be part of one of the best teams in the fly fishing industry, and they’re just as excited as I am. I bring a wealth of angling travel experience and I’ve been told that I really work for the guy looking for his next fishing spot. I like that.

Eric Ersch - ESB Lodge SnookIt’s a super exciting time in fly fishing travel. The Fly Shop® is a cutting edge outfit and we’re exploring exotic jungle destinations in South America for truly wild fish. I’m also focusing on the expansion of our near- and offshore saltwater portfolio and exploring with some remarkable new flats fishing operations.

On a personal note, this is the perfect next step for me. My wife, Lana, and I chose to live here in Redding years ago and it’s been ideal for us. We live minutes from a boat ramp on Lake Shasta, are close to a bunch of great trout streams and steelhead rivers, and only a couple hours drive to one of the most beautiful coastlines on the continent. Our children and grandchildren live nearby, so life is good.

I checked in, exchanged dollars for pesos, and went to my fourth floor room overlooking the pool and courtyard.

The Courtyard Marriott is clean, modern, with hammocks...
