Patrick Pendergast - Director of Travel Department
If there were a qualifications list for the job as director of The Fly Shop Travel Department, the resume for that position would read like Pat Pendergast’s biography. He came to The Fly Shop a little more than a dozen years ago in 1996. He first met Mike Michalak, the owner of The Fly Shop, while guiding in Alaska, in 1986.

Fly Fishing for Bass with Skip Morris
The Fly Shop® is thrilled to be working with acclaimed author and angler Skip Morris (see for their full bios). Skip is one of the best in the business, and he's hosting several one-day bass fly fishing workshops at The Fly Shop's exclusive private fly fishing bass retreat at Steiner Lake.
Fly fishing for largemouth bass is a longtime tradition in North America -- and wonderful sport. There are largemouth bass in every American state except Alaska and in every Canadian province, so this fishing is nearly always handy. Yet many fly fishers resist bass fly fishing simply because they don't understand it. If you're timid about trying bass on a fly, a day with Skip Morris on The Fly Shop's prime bass water -- Steiner Lake -- will change all that.
In each of these one-day workshops you'll learn the thrill of seeing a stout, powerful bass slam down a floating hair fly and then soar up in a wild head-shaking leap, and the fascination of probing deep structure with a slinky streamer fly on a sinking line to feel the rod suddenly jump at the water. You'll learn also such critical tactics as how to fish a hair bug back in the weeds and fallen timber largemouth love without snagging, how to cast big and wind-resistant bass flies, how to read a bass lake, when to fish deep and when to fish shallow and when to not fish at all, how to select the right flies for various conditions--the works. Specific equipment for fly fishing for bass will also be discussed, including rods, leaders, watercraft, everything.
Skip Morris, your instructor, has written the most popular book on tying bass flies to date, appears as the host and instructor on a bass-fly-fishing video, and has published many magazine articles on bass fly fishing. Skip knows largemouth-bass fly fishing. (He's also written thirteen books and hundreds of articles on fly-fishing, along with speaking at fly-fishing events across the US and Canada, and overseas.) He, with help from his fishing partner-wife Carol Ann, will take you through a presentation on the mechanics and techniques of bass fly fishing, and then take you out on the lake, demonstrate the techniques and strategies, answer your questions, and finally fish alongside you in your day of learning, fishing, discovery, and fun. With only six students in a workshop, you'll get plenty of personal attention.
