CAPE YORK, AUSTRALIA, JULY 9 – 16, 2008
Aboard the 62’ Tropic Paradise

Bill Marts, our saltwater travel specialist, is hosting a small group of adventurous fly fishers to Australia, to fish aboard the 62’ Tropic Paradise, a beautiful yacht with air conditioned cabins and custom built Florida style flats skiffs for each two anglers.

This is not a trip for the “fine and far” crowd. This is for those who would like to be strapped to a raging bull, knowing that if you can last long enough and luck is with you, the bull will eventually tire and you can get it released. The “bull” in this case would be any of over 50 species of fish to cast for in the Gulf of Carpentaria off of the west coast of Cape York in Australia. Fish such as trevally, queenfish, barramundi, several different tunas and Indio Pacific Permit are a few of the fishes that will be chasing our flies in July, 2008. Every one of these fish will strip line off of a reel in a spool-blurring few seconds.

We will be fishing river mouths, flats, reefs, drop-offs and open waters. The recommended fly gear is 8, 9 and 10 weight (with a possibility of a 12 weight) outfits. Most of the time the rods will be lined with an appropriate intermediate but a floater and a deep sinker should be ready just in case. Flies will include popper, gurgler, baitfish, crab and attractor patterns. Mike Michalak (The Fly Shop owner) was there last July and reported using flies and poppers in the 3 – 4 inch size range and had tremendous fishing.

Anglers who enjoy living life on the fishing edge (but with certain creature comforts – great lodging, food and fun) will feel at home with Bill and the group

Six rods are open at this time.

The dates are July 9 – 16, 2008 (Australia time – one day ahead of US).

The tides are right for fly fishing during this week. The price is quoted and converted from the Australian dollar.

As of this date, the USA price is $5150.00/person for 7 nights and 6 days of fishing from Cairns. The scheduled round trip flight between Bamaga and Cairns on Regional Pacific Air is included in the package price as is everything else aside from gratuities and your bar bill.

We have a DVD, a brochure and detailed travel and trip information for those who are seriously interested. Give Bill a call at 1-800-669-3474 or email him at bill@theflyshop.com to discuss this hosted trip.

I would be happy to talk to any of you about my last trip or help you plan one of your own. Give me a call or email.
